Christmas mince pies
On Monday I made mince pies. Very traditionally Christmassy. I got the mincemeat (made of raisins, fruit, nuts, suet and…gloopy jam type stuff!). You roll out shortcrust pastry, cut it with scone cutters, fill the pastry cases with mincemeat, cut out stars, put them on top…and cook for 15 minutes. Yum. I didn’t take any picture of the finished article. I’ll take a photo tonight!
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without mince pies!

My grandparents had a tradition of mincemeat pie, though it never really was a shared passion with any of their children or grandkids like me.

I think I’d like to try one of those…I actually thought it was some sort of meat all these years!

I think the taste grows on you. I never liked them as a child. I didn’t like fruit cake either but I do now - as long as it has lots of icing on!
I don’t know why it’s called mincemeat actually! It definitely has no meat in it!
Now all I need is mulled wine and we’re well away.

Aahhhh… now I know what that is! Thanks for posting about mince pies. They actually look really yummy! Wish we could all bake our traditional Christmas stuff and get together to swap. I really want a bite of that mincemeat pie, and I want to share some of the frosted sugar cookies my family makes… mmmmmmm!
