Terrorist threats and Chaos at UK Airports
What is going on?! We woke up this morning to breaking news that 18 people were arrested overnight after it was revealed that there was a plot to blow up 10 flights using liquid-based explosives travelling from the UK to the US when over the atlantic. We are on our highest security alert ever. No one is allowed any hand luggage except wallets and passports. No liquids are allowed on board including beverages, hair gels, lotions. Baby milk has to be verified by being tasted by the parent/carer in front of security people. Heathrow are taking no incoming flights that aren’t already in the air. All internal flights and short haul flights have been cancelled and the police are advising that no one come to the airports today. It’s chaos!! Poor people going on holiday this morning who were unaware of all this! Poor children who can’t have drinks or toys on the plane!
Really praying this gets sorted out soon. All TV channels have changed their schedules to keep us updated. I hope no one in the US is affected…..

US airport security just went nuts, too.
The non-profit I work for has like twelve students and three adults from the Sportsclub traveling to Orlando for the Streetball (3-on-3 street basketball) World Championships tomorrow morning and you would not believe the hoops we now suddenly have to jump through (no pun intended)! No gatorade may be taken on board the plane; this means that instead of buying it here at Sams inexpensively they will have to buy it down there at a convenience store or something. They must show up 4 hours early for an 8am flight!
And, two of our students have been red-flagged for background information!!! These are good Christian kids, just high school kids, and they just want to go to Orlando and defend their world championship title. I wish the airlines and DHS would just get off their backs! They’re nervous as it is, this is the last thing they need. And these kids are from the inner city and pretty disadvantaged. They don’t go on nice summer vacations with their families every year. It would be nice if they could just enjoy their trip!

Mel - That’s really harsh. We go crazy with security stuff at the expense of real people and human-ness! Really hope they make it ok.
Deana - don’t know what happened to our conversation! I’m sure we’ll catch up again soon! Praying that it’s all cleared up before you get here!

man, what a mess. i’m grateful though for all the security measures taken to make sure that some horrible tragedy doesn’t happen. my son, michael, has been pulled aside twice at airports. that’s ok with me. i know he’s a good apple but no one else knows that. i’m all for keeping innocent people safe. i never get angry with the security people but with the terrorists who started this madness. muah!

Heath and I were thinking of going to the UK soon, but to tell you the truth I’m too scared. i know that is stupid and all, but I’m nervous to fly as it is. The thought of an international flight scares the heck out of me. I really don’t know how piolots and flight crews do it. I really don’t.

Sue…just get drunk on the flight. HA!!
Or better yet…come with us…we’ll talk the whole way and you won’t even know you’re flying!

I’ve never thought of being scared but I don’t mind flying. How about we fly to you and pick you up?! I really hope you’re both able to come over at some point. Wait til Deana’s been then she can tell you whether it’s worth it!
