This is England?!

We are experiencing a heat wave that makes me feel like we’re in the Mediterranean but having to work - rubbish combination! Apparently it’s a Level 3 heatwave. Today has been soooo hot. It’s reached 35 celcius (95 Farenheit) and England does not do air conditioning! Our Summer average is usually 22C (72F). The kids weren’t really up for therapy today and neither was I. I’m in the hospital tomorrow on the elderly wards. The hospital has no air conditioning (the NHS don’t have the money to stretch to that) and the patients who are alread dehydrated will be more so.

It’s going to be hotter tomorrow and likely to break all British records. It was hotter here today than the Spanish holiday resorts that all the Brits flock to during the summer months! Who needs Ibiza and the Costa Del Sol when you’ve got Sheffield?! Will someone please declare a national holiday? I can’t cope!

Uh, Rachel, it’s been in the 90’s (F) here for weeks … stop your whining (just kidding deary).

And the reason we still need Costa Del Sol is so tourists don’t go snow blind staring at too much bare, bluish-white Sheffieldian skin.

As heartless as this may sound (all in fun you know) my heart does go out to the hospitals. Is there ever a contingency plan for such an odd and rare situation?

You’re so cheeky! If I was in California, I don’t think I’d mind the heat! At least there’s air conditioning. It’s all about expectations. Re: our bluish-white Sheffieldian skin, It’s getting more and more lobster red each day of this heatwave! There are big sun awareness campaigns and lots of burnt kids running around.

I really don’t know what plans are in place with hospitals. I really hope there are some. People are expecting the death rate to rise. I just don’t think we’re prepared for this.

    Hey guys,
Please do pray for us and the baby. We went yesterday for my first apt and things do not look good for this pregnancy. I baby is only half the size it needs to be right now. We get some test results back on Thursday and have more test done Thursday and next Tuesday. Baby really needs to be growing…please pray for a miracle.

    Thanks, take care,
    Mande and Shannon

    Poor luvs!

We’re having lots of heat here too. The entire lower 48 were in the nineties earlier in the week, which is unusual. My opinion is, now Michigan knows how the rest of us live! After all heat warnings are common here, we’re used to being told to stay hydrated and out of the sun and what the signs of heat exhaustian are…I passed out from heat exhaustian once during our week-long youth conference. No fun!

I was making fun of my boyfriend on the phone the other night, who did actually feel bad for me with all the heat we have, as I was telling him that it lasts in the nineties and hundreds for weeks on end here with humidity at 80% on average…which means it’s much higher than 80 at times!…Until he mentioned how miserable the office must be, and I said oh, no, nearly all offices here have AC…what? England doesn’t? Gracious! And now you tell me that haven’t even got it in the hospitals! Poor little dears!

At least in Cincinnati I can go to the library or the mall or someplace like that if I need to cool off. I will say that when I was a child we did not have AC in our house, and I don’t have it in my apartment now. So we go to the library or a coffee shop quite often!

It’s going to reach 103 F (39 C) here and I’m working in a youth center that doesn’t have any air conditioning! Lucky me ;)

108 in Sacto today. Hot and unseasonly humid as well. Yay, for air conditioning. I couldn’t imagin it without it. I tried to just roll down the windows in my car the other day and was dripping with sweat in a few minutes. So sorry about the hospital situation there.

What do you all think of global warming?
