A Flipping Good Tuesday!

I love pancake day! 47 days til Easter! It reminds me of being younger and coming home from school on Shrove Tuesday really excited about pancakes with lemon and sugar and the awe I had for my Mum’s flipping ability! This evening we had a pancake party with some of my friends from work and other areas of life. We ate lots of pancakes with ice cream, cream, cherries, chocolate sauce, golden syrup and lemon and sugar (not all at once!). It was lots of fun. I wanted to know why pancake day is called shrove Tuesday. ‘to shrive’ is to confess your sins and be freed from pain and guilt before eating all your food that you can’t have for lent. In Iceland the day is called “bursting Tuesday”! They must eat LOADS!!

Here’s some photos from this evening;

Is anyone giving anything up for lent? In my experience people outside church are more hardcore about lent. Everyone knows that there’s something in their life that they could do without for 40 days. In the past I’ve given up tea, coffee, TV and chocolate. I think I’ll take something up as of tomorrow but I haven’t decided what! At the moment I’m so full I feel like I could give up food for 40 days! Anyone else got ideas?!

PS the word flipping is funny cos we use it in phrases like “flipping marvellous” to emphasise the marvellousness! In the same way as “bloody brilliant”!

    It’s fat tuesday here. And those pancakes look more thin than the ones we have here…more like crepes. Looks like a lot of fun. I have been trying to think of giving up something too…I’m thinking sweets. But I’m afraid I’ll turn to crossaints and I don’t need that either!!!!!!

    So have you decided what you’re giving up yet, honey?!
